Biography

Born in 1989, Mandy Lerouge is a singer, dancer and organizer of events related to Argentinean cultures.

In 2009 and 2010, she was selected by the Festival Marsatac (Marseille) to participate in the project Aftershock, under the artistic direction of the English composer and producer Nitin Sawhney Genoa (festival Un Mare di Donne) and in Manchester (Band on the Wall jazz club).

From 2009 to 2017, she is the pen and voice of the trip-hop artist Alif Tree. They released two EPs: Social Mask (2009) and Everybody Knows (2011) for which she signed the majority of the lyrics (mainly in English) and all the vocal arrangements.

It is in 2015 that the traditional Argentinean music crosses Mandy Lerouge’s path, after a trip to Argentina and while she attends a concert of the accordionist Chango Spasiuk at the Musée du Quai Branly in Paris. It was love at first sight.

Her stage presence acquired from her experiences as a soloist in orchestras, her wide vocal range, with a marked grain, sweet bass and aerial high notes, as well as her rhythmic placement, inherited from her experience in jazz, allow her to appropriate these Argentinean musics with a very personal, contemporary and mixed touch, while being inspired with great respect of their traditions.

Quickly spotted by the great names of the international Argentinean scene, she was invited to sing on stage by Chango Spasiuk (Mercedes Sosa’s accordionist, international ambassador of Chamamé), the percussionist Minino Garay (Dee Dee Bridgwater, Julien Lourau, Benjamin Biolay), the pianist Lalo Zanelli (Melingo, Gotan Project, Alfredo Arias, François Béranger) and Luis Lopez (Cirque du Soleil, Studio Tango Montreal).
